Work week done! Bring on the beach!

After a somewhat grooling work week, only because it started off with chaos, levelled out and then became incredibly dull, I was looking forward to time away immensely! The food at El Catrin is simple and delicious, but a lot for one person to keep up on MEP levels constantly. The summer will prove to be interesting if I am to be the only prep and lunch cook! Luck only Josh is helping more. The weekend was busy with Stone and Josh. So the weekend I have planned for myself midweek involves a whole lot of laying at the beach and working on my tan!
Yesterday ended up being windy and on the verge of storming so I decided to take advantage and nap away most of the afternoon! Then we were invited to a dinner with Josh’s Dad Stephen his girlfriend Bridget. The beer pizza at the KVS brought us back again for the 3rd time in a short while. The conversation was interesting; South American infrastructure and the possibility of living there, politics who should or shouldn’t be hung, bottled water sales, and witchcraft, star/moon signs, numerology such things that are interesting and strange all at once.

The beach is too windy again for laying on so I’m drinking Margaritas at El Catrin.

Dinner at the cabin in Naramata consisted of smokies and farmers market veggies followed by 2 perfectly roasted marshmallows!
Stone and I went for a canoe ride across the bay while Josh peddled water at the market. All in all, it was a good evening. And a restful weekend.

Joshs new venture

I an effort to stand on my feet a little less and make more money I have taken up the cause of selling water. Not just any water but the BEST water on the planet. It’s called “Riva” and it’s an alkaline mineral water that is bottled at the source in Nelson B.C. This stuff is packed with natural electrolytes and minerals that are vital to properly regulate our bodily functions. From potassium to calcium and even strontium. This water is like liquid gold. There is not really any other product like “Riva”. My job is to tell this to the world. Wish me luck and don’t forget to grab a bottle or even a case when you see it in a store near you.

More wild edibles

Food is all around us in this valley. Most of it is well known and obvious like the orchards, vineyards and markets that cover our landscape. Some of it though, is lesser known but still plentiful. Take pineapple camomile for example. This “weed” grows everywhere and 90% of people think nothing of it. However, this little gem is packed with good nutrients and once dried, makes delicious teas, ice creams and sorbets. So keep your eyes peeled and you might find a stash worth raiding. Happy eating

Breakfast time!

My absolute favorite meal to make and eat! Today we feasted on the crisp, tangy, slightly salty wild foraged spinach we collected at 3 miles yesterday. This spinach is amazing! It taste nothing like what you buy from the grocery store. It’s tender, extremely flavourful & packed with nutrients.
Sauteed with a little butter & salt, I piled it on rye bread with Gouda and a soft fried egg. Delish!

Quick stop

I met Shayna at 3 mile beach after a sweet bike ride in the three blind mice trail network. My trails of choice today were “rusty muffler” “corral” “sirdropsalot” “sidewinder” and “sweet tzu”. It was a sweet ride to say the least. Mice is a wicked trail system that is only being made better the the awesome people from the penticton cycling club. Thanks guys. Anyways, after a quick dip in lake okanagan we headed back to town. Shay said she had seen some wild spinach along three mile road so we stopped to pick some. We gathered up a few pounds in just a few quick moments. I can’t wait to taste these little beauties.

Movie Night!

It was cheap night at the movies last night. Since I’m playing sugar mama to Josh at the moment, I got to pick the movie. Much to his surprise I didn’t pick Maleficent, I picked X-Men Days of Future Past! Maybe cuz we just watched wolverine the night before or because I have a feeling I’m gonna be disappointed by Maleficent. In any case, we tried to have a day off nap after a day of doing stuff before the show. We were interrupted by the phone, guys talking on the nearest patio, thunder & a yappy dog. Nap time fail. So we went out to chase an Okanagan storm, armed with Tim’s coffees. Too bad we missed that. After storm chasing fail we decided to hit Safeways bulk section for candy for the movie. Finally success!
We also went home to make my delicious stove top popcorn! With coconut oil & spicy butter.
We arrived just in time to get the crappiest seat left, but they weren’t so bad… At least we had our bag of cheaper than the theatre goodies & each other.💛 SM

Weekly meal plan for the fam

When we have the ultimate pleasure of master Stones company at the home, we like to feed the growing little bean with lots of yummy & nutritious grub. Sometimes it a challenge to get him to try stuff, but one thing is for sure, put chicken & corn or pasta in front of that kid & he’ll gobble it up till he’s “full full full!”
So we will be making a lot of meals at home this week/end and we’re doing a big shop today so we don’t have to shop while we are with Stone & busy working or doing fun stuff. It takes me all of 10 minutes to write an easy to make meal plan & grocery list. Keeping in mind our somewhat limited budget and making dinners that expose us all to diversity, I plan to use crossover ingredients as well (mostly veggies) and we only make enough for that meal, usually. So we don’t have heaps of leftovers taking up space in our tiny apartment fridge! SM

Had an idea…… Gonna go with it.

Just to see where it leads. Shayna and I have decided to start a “Catering” company. We have no equipment, no space to work out of (other then our tiny apartment) and no stash of cash to cover business start up costs. But we have an idea. A vision, and passion. A whole lot of passion. Sometimes an idea and the energy to pursue it is all you need. So here it goes……
